4. Reading or Downloading

We collect and store only the following information about you: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, gmail.com, if you are connecting from a Gmail account, or suffolkcountyny.gov,  if you are connecting from Suffolk County Government domain), the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the Web site from which you linked to our site.  We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors.

We employ commercially reasonable measures to safeguard the collection, transmission and storage of the information we collect.  These measures are based on the sensitivity of the information that we collect, process and store and the current state of technology.  We use software programs to monitor traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or other types of malicious use.  Information collected from these sources may be used to help identify an individual in the event of a criminal investigation or as required by any legal process.  In addition, all sensitive information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.

6. Online Applications  / Profile Updates / Events / Donations

If you complete any of our online intake, applications, membership, events  or donation forms, any information/data collected  will be used solely to provide you specific enrollment, more targeted content, or access to available programs.   We use strict physical, electronic and administrative safeguards to maintain the security of personally identifiable information (“PII”) as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  We may use your contact information only to send further information about our organization or to contact you when necessary. You may always opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the "Opt Out" section below.  Information/Data collected for affordable housing program(s) enrollment is described below and is securely handled for the processing of specific application(s) and will follow HUD regulations for protecting personally identifiable and sensitive personally identifiable information.

Personally Identifiable Information -
Personally identifiable information (“PII”) means information/data that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, such as your full name, telephone number, email address, postal address, or certain account numbers.   Sensitive personally identifiable information (“SPII”) means information/data such as social security numbers, or comparable identification numbers; financial information associated with individuals; and medical information associated with individuals.  You may opt out of providing us with PII, if you choose to; however, not doing so could affect the determination of eligibility in affordable housing program(s) where such information is required.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information -
LIHP may also collect certain non-personally identifiable information (“Non-PII”) from you as you use the Site.  Your Internet Protocol (IP) address, your browser type, pages you view on the Site and search terms you enter in to the Site may be collected for purposes or generating and analyzing statistics about the preferences of users of the Site, and to detect, prevent and respond to fraud, intellectual property infringement, violations of our Terms of Use, violation of the law or other misuse of the Site.

8. Sharing of Information

LIHP may share your PII only with affiliated entities (“Related Parties”) who have agreed to adhere to the rules set forth in this Privacy Policy, under the circumstances provided in Program Guidelines for any program you may complete application for, in conjunction with your acknowledgement and authorization.

LIHP does not share, sell or trade with third parties and of your PII or any specific details about you as an individual, except with your consent, as may be needed to operate our business, or as may be required or permitted by law.

9. Sending us an email

You may send us an electronic mail message (email) containing a question or comment, or by filling out a Web form that provides us this information. LIHP DOES NOT accept any emails containing personally identifiable information or document attachments which contain personally identifiable information.  Personally identifiable information being submitted electronically will only be accepted through LIHP secure portal transmittal.  Please refer to above policy info on Online Applications/Profile Updates and Donations for our procedures on accepting personally identifiable information (“PII”).   We may forward your email to other employees who are better able to answer your questions. We may also use your email to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.
We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us, and PII will only be transmitted to LIHP through our secure portal provided for application process and document(s) upload. Providing such information is strictly voluntary. Except as might be required by law, we do not share any information we receive with any outside parties.
If you sign up for one of our email lists, we will only send you the kinds of information you have requested. We won't share your name or email address with any outside parties.

10. Payment Processors

We accept payment for applications fees/membership/donations/event registration/servces on our Site.  We use third-party services for payment processing (“Payment Processors”).   We will not store or collect your payment card details.  That information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors whose use of your personal information is governed by their Privacy Policy.  These payment  processors adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council.

11. Children and Privacy

The Site is not meant for children and LIHP will not knowingly collect any PII from anyone under the age of 18.  By providing LIHP with PII, you are verifying that you are at least 18 years old.   If you become aware that a child under your care has provided us information without your consent, please contact us at:

12. Opt-Out or Change Your Contact Information

Our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us through a special online form. You may choose to receive only specific communications or none at all.
