Suffolk County Down Payment Assistance Program

This program closes for applications on April 1, 2025

The Suffolk County HOME Consortium down payment assistance funds are essentially zero-interest deferred loans that are forgiven after 10 years. The assistance provided will be up to $30,000 for eligibile applicants to assist with the down payment toward the purchase of an owner occupied, single family residence. This program does not fund closing costs. The applicant will be required to sign a Note & Mortgage which is subordinate to the bank or lending institution that will be providing the primary mortgage.

Applicants must purchase a home within the Suffolk County Consortium HOME Selection Area stated below:

• Town of East Hampton - and the Village of Sag Harbor
• Town of Huntington - entire town
• Town of Riverhead - entire town
• Town of Shelter Island - excluding incorporated villages
• Town of Smithtown - and the Village of the Branch
• Town of Southampton - and the incorporated Villages of Sag Harbor, Southampton, Westhampton Beach and Westhampton Dunes
• Town of Southold - and the Village of Greenport

**Please note that the Townships of Babylon, Islip, and Brookhaven do not participate in the Suffolk County HOME Consortium of municipalities. This program cannot fund purchases in these towns.

The Long Island Housing Partnership has grants available for first-time homebuyers seeking to purchase foreclosed homes in Nassau and Suffolk Counties as part of the Community Stabilization Program. Grants can be used for down payment.

The Nassau County HOME Down Payment Assistance Program will provide eligible first time homebuyers with up to $50,000 towards down payment/closing costs towards the purchase of an eligible new or existing single-family home, provided that the applicant is income eligible and meets all program requirements. The applicant must also be able to satisfy the mortgage lender's minimum down payment requirements and be able to secure a mortgage. Homeowners are required to reside in the home as their principle residence for a minimum of 15 years or HUD will require a full repayment of the HOME down payment assistance provided.

Applications are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until funding has been exhausted. Read the Program Guidelines as they contain important program information.

When completing an application online, you must use a unique and valid email address, and you are required to provide all documents that are listed in the "Required Document Checklist" that is included with the online application, and also provided in a printable listing at the bottom of this page. All supporting documents must be scanned and uploaded directly into your online application.

There is a $75 application fee for this program.
